At Songhees Tours, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive experience for all guests. As an Indigenous-led business rooted in Lək̓ʷəŋən teachings of respect, relational accountability, and belonging, we believe accessibility is a reflection of both legal responsibility and cultural values.

1. Our Commitment

We strive to provide equal access to all guests—regardless of ability—by identifying and removing barriers wherever possible. We continue to learn and adapt our practices in alignment with:

  • The Accessible Canada Act

  • The BC Accessibility Act

  • Guidance from Chief & Council, Elders, community members, and guests with lived experience

2. Accessible Tour Options

We offer and continuously improve the following options:

Walking Tours

  • Wheelchair-accessible routes

  • Rest points throughout the tour

  • Ability to use customer-provided microphones or hearing assistance devices for ease of hearing

  • Printed materials available on request

  • Tours paced to suit diverse mobility levels

Canoe Tours

  • Canoes require basic mobility to enter/exit with assistance

  • Guests with limited mobility are encouraged to contact us in advance—we can discuss suitability or adapt a custom experience

Custom Experiences

We design group and private tours for schools, Elders, and guests with accessibility requirements. These may include:

  • Shorter or seated experiences

  • Alternative transportation options

  • Visual or tactile materials

  • Adapted content or storytelling formats

3. Service Animals and Support Persons

  • Service animals are welcome on all outdoor tours

  • Support persons are welcome to accompany guests at no additional charge (please let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly)

4. Booking and Communication Accessibility

  • We accept bookings by phone, email, or through our accessible website

  • We use plain language in our materials and tour descriptions

  • We offer support in booking or preparing for your visit

  • Information about accessibility is available on our FAQ and tour pages

5. Feedback and Continuous Improvement
