Every path has a story.
Tracing Stories Across Land and Water:
The routes shown here trace places that have long been part of life on Lək̓ʷəŋən territory. Beginning in Victoria’s Inner Harbour, our walking and canoe tours follow the shorelines and city spaces where generations of the Songhees people have gathered, travelled, and shared knowledge. As you move through these locations with our guides, the landscape becomes more than scenery. It becomes a living story of land, water, and culture that continues to shape this place today.

This is a top-ten must-do in Victoria! I learned so much and had a great time on our canoe trip through the harbour. Our guide, Melissa, was a joy to talk to and super knowledgeable about the past and present of the Inner Harbour. She sang, drummed, and told us stories, too. The experience gives me a whole new perspective on the city.

Insightful, welcoming and full of such genuine passion and care for place. Warmed souls in spite of wind and rain, couldn't recommend enough :)

Tēnā Koutou Katoa! (Greetings to all who read this) I did the Walking Tour Xʷsəyq̓ əm (Place of Mud) hosted by Melissa back on November 27th, 2025. I had a great time with Melissa and another lady whose name I can not remember. The tour was very informative, and interesting. I learnt a lot about the history of, what is now known as, James Bay. I intend to take the canoe tour in March of 2026 with many of my collegues at Power To Be. I highly recommend this experience. Nāku noa nā (It’s just me) Pāora.

Melissa was our guide for a tour in October, and she was so great! We learned a lot about the history of the area and the Songhees. Melissa was a wonderful guide, both informative and entertaining.
